Your Android is going straight to voicemail and you're not sure why. No matter what you try, you keep missing important calls! In this article, I'll explain why your Android goes straight to voicemail and show you how to fix the problem for good.
Turn Off Airplane Mode
Airplane mode disconnects your Android from cellular networks. When your Android is in Airplane mode, any calls you receive will go straight to voicemail. Check to make sure Airplane mode isn't on by opening Settings and tapping Connections. Make sure the switch next to Airplane mode is off.
Turn Off Do Not Disturb
Do not disturb silences notifications and sends calls to voicemail unless you've specifically chosen numbers you want to have bypass Do not disturb. Make sure Do not disturb is off by opening Settings and tapping Notifications. Then, tap Do not disturb and turn off the switch next to Do not disturb.
Update Your Android
Keeping your Android up to date with the latest version of the operating system will help keep it running smoothly. Android developers often release update to introduce new features and fix known bugs, one of which could be sending your calls straight to voicemail.
Open Settings and tap Software update. Tap Download and install if a software update is available.
Eject And Reinsert The SIM Card
The SIM card is what connects your Android to your wireless carrier's network. An issue with your SIM card could be sending all of your calls straight to voicemail.
The quickest way to troubleshoot a SIM card issue is to open the SIM tray and reseat your SIM card. Grab a SIM card ejector tool (or a straightened out paperclip) and press it into the small hole in your Android's SIM tray. The location of the SIM tray varies from phone to phone, but it can almost always be found on one of the edges of your Android.
Once the SIM tray is open, make sure your SIM card is seated correctly. Then, push the tray back into your Android.
Make Sure The Phone App Is Up To Date
Just like with your Android's operating system, it's important to make sure you're using the most recent version of the Phone app. Open Phone and tap on the three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
Next, tap Settings -> About Phone. You'll know Phone is up to date if it say “The latest version is installed.” Download and install any update for Phone if one is available.
Contact Your Wireless Carrier
If you've tried the fixes above and your calls are still going straight to voicemail, it's time to reach out to your wireless carrier. There may be an issue with your cell phone plan only a customer support representative can resolve.
