If you're trying to use your Google Pixel, but it keeps restarting, don't panic! This can be extremely frustrating, especially if you're struggling to figure out why this is happening. Look no further, because in this article, I'll explain why your Google Pixel keeps restarting and how to fix it.
Hard Reset Your Google Pixel
Forcing your device to restart can clear up any malfunctions you may be experiencing. Doing this will probably fix the problem, but if you're dealing with a deeper software bug, a restart won't address it.
To force your Google Pixel to restart, or hard reset your Google Pixel, follow these steps:
- Turn your device on by pressing the Power button.
- Once your display is on, press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds.
- You should see the options Power Off, Restart, and Enable Emergency Mode on your screen. Select Restart.
If your phone is unresponsive when you press the Power button, try doing this to force a restart:
- Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds.
After this your Google Pixel should restart, and hopefully, it's back to normal!
Check For A Software Update
You can check which Android version you have in the Settings app. Under Settings, navigate through the following tabs: System -> Advanced -> System Update. Here, you'll be able to see your current Android version and check for any available software updates. Once you determine whether or not there's an update, follow the steps on your screen to download it. Similar to the reset, this can eliminate any minor software bugs causing your Pixel to not work.
Backup Your Google Pixel
Ideally, you backup your device frequently. Just to be safe, let's back it up again now to ensure all of your data is saved. To make this process easier, all of your data can be saved to your Google account. Google also allows you to set up a feature that automatically backs up your data and can be restored to your device at any time. To learn how, check out these instructions.
Reset Your Pixel To Factory Settings
Before trying out this solution, make sure to back up your Pixel first. Resetting to factory defaults will effectively erase all of the stored features and data on your device. Don't worry though, you can restore your saved data after this process is complete.
To reset your Google Pixel to its factory settings, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Navigate through the tabs System -> Advanced -> Reset Options.
- Select Erase All Data (factory reset), then Reset Phone. If you have a saved password, you'll be prompted to enter it here.
- Click Erase Everything. This will erase all of the saved data from your phone's storage.
After the reset is complete, you'll be able to restart your device. You can set up your Pixel and restore the saved data from your Google account. Ideally, your continuous restarting problem will be solved!
Repair Your Pixel
If you've tried all of the fixes above and nothing seems to be working, it might be time to seek additional help. Google offers in-person and mail-in repairs for Pixels that have either in-warranty or out-of-warranty damage. You can check your repair options by identifying the IMEI of your device.
