Your current mobile provider doesn’t seem to be working out, so you’ve decided to switch to a new plan. Congratulations! In this article, I’ll be explaining how to switch from Verizon to Google Fi.
Why Switch From Verizon To Google Fi?
There are several reasons to switch cell phone carriers. If you’re unsatisfied with Verizon's coverage, Google Fi might have better service in your area. Since, Google Fi uses multiple nationwide networks, it's likely you get better coverage locally!
Cost is often another reason behind making the switch. If you feel like you’re paying too much for your current plan, Google Fi could be a better fit at a better price.
Coverage
Before making the switch, it’s helpful to check both Verizon and Google Fi's coverage to compare the service you can expect in your area. Google Fi uses Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular towers to provide the best service nationwide.

Find A Plan
Google Fi offers countless plans for you to choose from. Take the time to decide which one suits your needs. If you want to compare Google Fi plans side by side, check out our plan comparison tool to ensure you’re getting the best option for you.
Google Fi also also allows their customers to switch between plans every month, so you'll never be locked into service you don't like.
Unlock Your Verizon Phone
After purchase, Verizon locks their customers' phones for 60 days. After this period, the phone unlocks automatically even if you’re still using their service. Upon switching to Google Fi, you can purchase a new device, or bring over your current one if it meets their requirements.
Check Compatibility
Unfortunately, not all cell phones are compatible with Google Fi's network. You can check their compatibility page to see if your current device will transfer over. You might also need your IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) number, which you can find in your Settings app or by dialing #06#.
Android IMEI
It can be tricky to find the IMEI number for your Android. Check out this tutorial on how to find an Android's IMEI number for details!
iPhone IMEI
To find the IMEI on your iPhone, go to the Settings app. Next, tap General -> About. Scroll down to the section labelled Primary and you should see your device's IMEI number.
Pick The Right Time To Switch
Switching to your new plan at the right time can help you save money. We recommend waiting to cancel your current plan until the end of your monthly billing cycle. Once you’ve reached the end of the month, enroll in your Google Fi plan. This will help you avoid wasting data from your Verizon plan.
Keep Your Number
Google Fi invites their customers to keep their current phone number, even after switching to a new plan. When you're ready to switch, don’t cancel your Verizon plan until after you’ve transferred your phone number to Google Fi if you want to keep it. Check out Google Fi's page on how to transfer your old number for more details!
Deals When You Switch
Switching from Verizon to Google Fi can be very convenient, as you can complete the process from the comfort of your own home. Plus, Google Fi offers plenty of deals to new customers that you can take advantage of. Currently, Google Fi is offering discounts on several Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones to customers who make the switch!

The credit didn’t come through, so I contacted customer service to see what was going and some rep (Shahwaz) wouldn’t even address what was promised. They basically just kept telling me the original billing error was my fault and kept trying to disconnect the chat. The service was so bad I actually asked if they were a bot because I thought there was no way a human could be so bad. It’s rare to… Read more »
