Your iPhone 7 won't hard reset and you don't know why. Even the most experienced iPhone users have run into this problem because Apple changed the way to perform a hard reset on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. This article will explain how to hard reset on an iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and explain why Apple changed the process.
How To Hard Reset An iPhone 7 Or 7 Plus
- Begin by pressing and holding the volume down button and the power button simultaneously.
- Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears on the display of your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus. Don't be surprised if this take 20-30 seconds!
- Your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus will turn back on and the hard reset is complete.
Why Did Apple Change The Way To Do A Hard Reset?
With the release of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Apple replaced the physical Home button with a static “button” that simulates a clicking sensation using a custom Taptic Engine. As a result of this change, Apple decided to incorporate the volume down button into the hard reset and DFU restore process. The volume down button was a logical choice because it is now much easier to hard reset using only one hand.
Pro tip: If you want to change the feedback of your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus Home button, go to Settings -> General -> Home Button and choose your click.
My iPhone 7 Won't Reset Because A Button Is Broken
If your power button or volume down button is broken, you may not be able to perform a hard reset on your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus. If your iPhone is still under warranty, the Apple Store may cover the cost of the repair for you. Go to Apple's support page to set up an appointment at your local Apple Store. There, you can also look into mail-in repair options as well!

iPhone 7.
I held the volume down button and the power button
The iPhone turned on and a screen appeared that said:
Enter Passcode
Touch ID requires your passcode
when the iPhone restarts.
How do I completely reset the phone to the way it comes when brand new? I need to clear the phone to give it away.
Settings -> General -> Reset or Transfer iPhone -> Erase All Content & Settings.
It says “Disabled Try Back In 70,879 Minutes”.
My iPhone 7 Won’t Hard Reset is the problem, not How To Perform A Hard Reset.
still on black screen after force restart
Still won’t turn on … any idea?
Could be a deeper software problem. I’d try putting your iPhone in DFU mode, then taking it to the Apple Store if that doesn’t work.
It’s just stuck on the Apple logo that’s it has been like that all day and I cannot even get the option to pull up to hard reset
My I phone 7 plus will now hard reset and there is not reset option on itunes
this doesn’t work now – it goes into SOS mode if you hold the volume down button and the power button simultaneously.

I’m kindof stuck in the hard reset infinite loop and i dont… Read more »

Did you figure out? Having same issues.
Jim Mersinger yep. Had to bring it in stores and they replaced it unfortunately its a motherboard issue
Did this 3 times and all three times it just goes back to phone being disabled.
Thanks! I couldn’t figure it out and was getting frustrated. This did the trick.
yay it worked!!!
it didn’t work for me
Yes it does just takes a little longer don’t release buttons till you see the apple logo if it’s in a case it might help to take it out so your sure the buttons stay pushed in till the logo shows.
This doesn’t work!
