Unlocking your iPhone XS and realizing it's almost out of battery is quite inconvenient. Even worse, you go to plug your phone in, and it won't take a charge! We all have places to go and people to see. So when your iPhone is dead, it's frustrating. In this article, I'll explain what to do when your iPhone XS isn't charging!
Hard Reset Your iPhone
Before attempting anything else, try restarting your iPhone. The software on your iPhone XS may have crashed, causing the screen to go black.
To hard reset an iPhone XS, follow these simple steps:
- Press and release the Volume Up button.
- Press and release the Volume Down button.
- Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
Try A Different Charger
Though this sounds too easy, sometimes all you need to do is try a different charging method. If you usually charge your iPhone XS using a wall charger, try plugging it into a computer instead. This has worked for me before!
Try A Different Lightning Cable
Trying a different Lightning cable could help as well. iPhone are susceptible to damage and fraying. They can easily wear down and stop working. Borrow a cable from a friend and see if your iPhone XS starts charging again.
Clean Out The Lightning Port
We take our phones everywhere. We put them on restaurant tables, set them in cup holders, and place them in the beach sand. Even these three examples can cause lint, gunk, and other debris to get wedged in the Lightning port. In turn, the unwanted material can block the charger from connecting correctly. It might be wise to clean it!
To clean the Lightning port, use an anti-static brush or brand new toothbrush. Gently work the material out of the port.
Back Up Your iPhone
If your iPhone XS still won't charge, now would be a good time to back it up. That way, you'll have a saved copy of your information just in case you find yourself with a broken iPhone. You can back up your iPhone using iCloud and iTunes.
Put Your iPhone In DFU Mode
Device Firmware Update mode, more commonly known as DFU Mode, is the deepest type of iPhone restore. This is the last step you can take to completely rule out a software problem with your iPhone XS.
This restore will revert your iPhone back to its factory settings. If you have a backup, you can restore all of your information back onto your iPhone.
