Every time you pick up your iPhone, the screen automatically turns on. You're not sure why it happens, but you're ready to learn. In this article, I'll explain what Raise To Wake is, what it does, and how you can turn it on or off on your iPhone!
What Is Raise To Wake?
Raise to Wake is an iPhone feature that automatically “wakes up” your iPhone when you pick it up. When you raise your iPhone, the screen turns on, and the lock screen becomes visible. This allows you to easily see notifications, open Control Center, take photos or videos, turn on the flashlight, or view your widgets.
How Do I Turn Raise To Wake On Or Off?
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display & Brightness.
- Tap the switch next to Raise to Wake.
You'll know Raise to Wake is on when the switch is green. If the switch is white, this feature is off!
Which iPhones Can Use Raise To Wake?
Compatibility with Raise to Wake depends on the model of your iPhone and the iOS version its running. Any iPhone 6s or newer running iOS 10 or newer is compatible with Raise to Wake.
Newer iPhones have many more great features just like this. If you have an older iPhone, now may be a great time to upgrade! If you're interested in upgrading your iPhone, check out our tool that helps you compare cell phones.

I have turned off the raise to wake on my iphone12 mini but the screen still lights up when I put it in my shirt pocket. This causes the phone to lock sometimes. It was a particular nuisance when on face id which I have now turned off. It would not recognise me when in my pocket of course and lock me out. Any way to disable the raise to wake completely ?
