iOS 14 introduced a lot of important security features. One such feature notifies you when an app is using your iPhone's camera. In this article, I'll explain what the green dot is on your iPhone!
What Does The Green Dot Mean?
You may have noticed a small green dot at the top of your iPhone's display. This dot appears when your iPhone's camera is in use or has been used recently.
The green dot, along with the orange dot, is an important security feature introduced with iOS 14. With so many apps asking for access to Camera, it's difficult to remember which of them actually use it.
It's even harder to keep track of when each app winds up using Camera. The purpose of the green dot is to help maintain your privacy by keeping you informed about how often Camera is on.
How Do I Remove The Green Dot?
There are a couple ways to make the green dot to go away. The easiest method is to close every open app on your iPhone. By closing everything, you can be sure there are no functions running in the background of your iPhone accessing the camera without your knowledge.
How To Close Apps On iPhone
On iPhones with Face ID, use one finger to swipe up from bottom to the center of the screen. Hold your finger in the center of the screen until the app switcher appears. On iPhones without Face ID, double-press the Home button to open the app switcher. Regardless of which iPhone you have, swipe your apps up and off of the screen to close them.
Restrict Camera Access For Specific Apps
You can also get rid of the green dot when using specific apps by restricting Camera access. When you open an app for the first time, it'll sometimes ask for permission to access Camera.
People often quickly tap Allow so they can start using their new app immediately. You might be surprised to learn which apps currently have access to Camera!
Open Settings and tap Privacy -> Camera. Turn off the switch next to the apps you don't want having access to Camera.
