What Is Reverse Wireless Charging

What Is Reverse Wireless Charging? Here’s The Truth!

Every new phone release offers some type of feature you may have never heard of before. While it can be hard to keep up with the technology of new phones, we're here to help with quick and easy guides. In this article, I'll tell you everything you need to know about reverse wireless charging!

What Is Reverse Wireless Charging?

To put it simply, reverse wireless charging gives you the ability to charge your phone without plugging it in. You may have already heard of wireless charging. However, reverse wireless charging is a little different.

Instead of wirelessly charging your phone with a specific charger, it allows you to use one device to charge another device. In other words, one phone becomes the charging pad and the other device gets charged.

How Does It Work?

Any wireless charging, from toothbrushes to phones, takes power from one device and transfers it to the other through electromagnetic induction. For phones, the best part is that the two devices do not have to be the same. As long as the device being charged is capable of wireless charging, then it can be charged by a device that is capable of reverse wireless charging.

How Fast Is It?

The downside is that this kind of charging isn't very fast. While it's not optimal to fill up your battery, it'll give you an extra boost when your phone is on the verge of dying.

Currently, there isn't a standard released by Huawei or Samsung with the specifications for charging speed. However, the fastest charging cables manage about 50 watts while the fastest wireless charger manages about 20 watts. Therefore, phone manufacturers estimate this type of wireless charging will be around 20 watts as well.

Are There Better Options?

Something to remember is that the device you're using to reverse wireless charge your other device will run out of battery as it transfers power. So, you might end up with two dead devices quicker than you'd like.

However, as I mentioned above, it can be a lifesaver if you need a quick power boost.

There are definitely more effective ways to charge your phone. While you might not have access to an outlet, many phone cases come with batteries and many portable chargers last for a long time. These are worth the investment, especially if you travel often!

Which Phones Support Reverse Wireless Charging?

While any phone capable of wireless charging can be charged by reverse wireless charging, there are only a few phones that currently support it:
