You're looking at the new iPhone 12 and notice the small indentation on the side of the phone. You've owned iPhones before, but you've never seen this oval. In this article, I'll tell you what is below the side button on the iPhone 12!
What Is Under The Side Button On iPhone 12?
The iPhone 12 has a window for the mmWave 5G antenna below the side button. The window allows 5G signals to pass through the outside of the phone. This is a new feature for the iPhone, and the phone has flat edges in order to fit it in. High-band, or mmWave, 5G has really poor range, and that's exemplified by the fact that iPhone 12 needs a window for it to work properly.
Luckily, mmWave 5G isn't the only type of 5G network out there. Several carries currently have active networks for low-band 5G, which has a slower data speed but a much wider range. Other carriers are currently working on building out their mid-band 5G networks as well, which should become more widely available in the coming years.

Is The iPhone 12 Worth It?
The iPhone 12 is a great phone, but we don't recommend buying it solely because of its 5G compatibility. Instead, we recommend looking at things like the speedy A14 processor, its dual SIM capability.
Another one of the most cutting edge iPhone 12 features MagSafe. MagSafe is Apple's new built-in magnetic structure designed to make using an iPhone more convenient and reliable than ever. MagSage allows the iPhone 12 to stick to other surfaces, such as magnetic cases or car mounts. It also increases the efficiency of wireless charging.
The iPhone 12 also has the best smartphone camera ever. Featuring automatic image stabilization and dual rear 12 MP lenses, iPhone 12 users can take high quality photo and video in more settings than ever. If you're a serious cell phone photographer, you might want to consider the iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, which have a third high resolution camera lens for even more versatility.
Even with the 5G antenna window, the iPhone 12 is also extremely durable. This phone's frame is comprised of high quality aluminum, and its screen features Apple's new Ceramic Shield glass design.
