is iphone 8 waterproof or water resistant

Is iPhone 8 Waterproof Or Water-Resistant? Here’s The Truth!

You want to take your iPhone 8 to the beach, but you're worried about it getting wet. Like the iPhone 7 before it, your iPhone 8 is water-resistant, but is it completely waterproof? In this article, I'll answer the question, “Is the iPhone 8 waterproof or water-resistant?” and help you interpret the iPhone 8's IP rating.

Is The iPhone 8 Waterproof Or Water-Resistant?

The iPhone 8 is waterproof when submerged in water of up to roughly 3 feet (one meter) in depth. The iPhone 8 received an IP rating of IP67, which means it has received the highest level of dust-resistance (6) and the third highest level of water-resistance (7).

Water-resistance is graded on a scale of 0-9. Most top-of-the-line smartphones today have ingress protection ratings of IP68, meaning they're fully dust-resistant and water-resistant at depths greater than one meter. The highest durability rating a cell phone can currently receive is IP69K, which means it can still work after coming into contact with high pressure liquid streams.

Is Liquid Damage Covered By My iPhone 8 Protection Plan?

Even though the iPhone 8 is water-resistant, liquid damage is not covered by your iPhone warranty. So, before you show off your waterproof iPhone 8 party trick, think about the long-term consequences!

What To Do If Your iPhone 8 Gets Wet

If your iPhone 8 got wet and you're a little nervous of liquid damage, gently wipe it off with a microfiber cloth and put in it a sealed bag with desiccants. But please, whatever you do, don't put your water-resistant iPhone 8 in a bag of rice! Rice can get stuck in the ports of your iPhone 8, which could cause lots of damage to the internal components of your iPhone.

Enjoy Your iPhone 8!

Ok, so today I fell into the marina whilst getting off my boat. My iPhone 8 was in my jeans pocket and I was in the water for just over a minute. I dried the phone off and it still worked. When I got home, I tried to recharge it but got the message “liquid detected in the fire port. Please remove from charge until dry.” Or words to that effect. I stood the phone upright and left it in the fresh air for an hour and it charged without any problem. I’ve written this on that iPhone.

I dropped my phone briefly (10 seconds), grabbed it out, dried it, and took off case. It auto-dialed 911. The cops showed up at the pool party 15 min after I left. They tracked the 911 call to the calling location.

Phone has worked fine since, except I can no longer insert a Lightning cable in the charging port. Any ideas?

I would like to see the test results of dropping an iPhone 8 in water. There aren’t any. It’s a total fabrication. If there are test results, then Apple should post them here.

It was drizzling a bit outside and my phone had 1% battery. I got inside the house and it switched off due to no battery. I put it on charge and it remained on charge for nearly one hour, but still didn’t switch on. Please help me!

It’s important to make sure that the phone has had enough time to dry before you attempt to charge it. It may not have allowed you to charge it so soon after coming out of the rain because it detected moisture in the charging port. Try charging it again tomorrow to see if that helps. If that doesn’t work, you may need to reach out to Apple to have it serviced or replaced.

Dropped my iphone into about 8 feet of water while getting off my boat this weekend. Tried fishing it out with a net for about 10 minutes but couldn’t find it. went to eat dinner and tried again when I returned an hour later. After another 10 minutes of fishing by net I found it. It was lit up when I came out of the water. I tried calling it with another phone and it rang. Stil working fine today – 2 days later!

The iPhone 8 is not waterproof. Its another deceptive classification made by apple to try to compete with the samsung S7 which is waterproof. don’t fall for it. My daughter put hers in a foot of water and it does not work anymore. It has a waterproof clasification but that does not mean its waterproof.

“The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 are the only smartphones to receive an IP68 rating”

False. There have been several Sony smartphones rated IP65/68 before the Samsung S7 (released in 2016), starting with the Xperia Z3 in 2014.

By the way, the Z2 from the same year as well as its predecessor Z1 from 2013 had been rated IP55/58. And before that, the Xperia Z had been rated IP55/57.
