A hard reset forces your iPhone 11 to quickly turn off and back on again. It's the iPhone equivalent of pulling the plug of your router out of the wall to restart it.

Why Should I Hard Reset My iPhone 11?

A hard reset can temporarily fix minor software glitches and crashes.

How Do I Hard Reset My iPhone 11?

  1. Press and release the volume up button.
  2. Press and release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button. Keep holding until the Apple logo appears on the display.

Pro Tips

  • You may need to hold the side button for 25–30 seconds.
  • These steps also work for the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

My iphone 11 keeps showing black screen & I have to keep on doing the method of hitting the up button, down button & the sleep button in order for it to come back on, but then after about 10 mins. I have to do the same thing all over again in order for it to work. Why do I have to keep repeating this method?

My iPhone 11 plus pro won’t recharge. Down to 10%. Anxiety plus. Tried the quick press of volumes up and down, then side button several times. But should it only be side button alone when turning back on?

It didn’t work for me. I have cleaned the port, reset and hard reset the phone and it still won’t charge. I only have 7% left so I had to turn it off all together till i can figure it out. 🙁

This worked! My iPhone 11’s screen all of a sudden stopped working and wouldn’t even detect my face. I tried turning it off and on the normal way (pressing vol buttons and lock at once) and the screen wouldn’t let me slide the lock.

I was able to do this and it worked! Sad mine did this after 2 years but it is what it is.

It worked for me. It’s quick and easy.
1) MAKE SURE YOUR SCREEN IS TURNED OFF (black screen) this is so important.
2) Press and release UP button quickly.
3) Press and release DOWN button quickly.
4) Press and hold the RIGHT SIDE button until the SLIDE TO THE RIGHT sign appears and then you are good to go…
Good luck🙏

IT DIDNT WORK ANY OTHER SOLUTIONS OR SUGGESTION ?????????

Colin Boyd

Hi Tamara, sometimes your best bet is to go straight to Apple Support. The last thing you want is to accidentally damage your iPhone more while trying to fix it, so having it diagnosed by a certified Apple technician is always a reliable way to go. I’m sorry our troubleshooting tips couldn’t be of more help, best of luck!

Hi Jennifer, if none of our suggestions have worked by now I’d recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly. The problem you’re experiencing is most likely a hardware issue, in which case an Apple Technician is really the only option for a reliable fix. I’m sorry we couldn’t be of more help, best of luck getting this resolved!

You need to do it quite fast. Press and release volume up, then immediately after that press and release volume up and then immediately after that press and hold side button. Volume up/down should be pressed as if you’d changing the volume.

I do hate apple, this phone is not making my impression any better. I have this thing for work. I will stick with Android for personal.

I have been having problems with hearing my phone calls on my iPhone 11. I backed up the phone on my computer, did a factory reset and then restored the phone. Since then the phone will not switch on. I get the Apple logo then the screen goes black. iTunes picked up the phone and I got a message that an update was being downloaded and would install. However nothing appears to be happening. I’m at a loss what to do now.

after the apple logo appears on the screen do i continue holding the button or release it , i have tried both and still the screen want let me open phone

Liam Shotwell

Reply to  Tony

You should be able to release it once the Apple logo appears. What’s the issue you are having that is requiring a hard reset? If you are trying to unlock your phone, a hard reset will not be able to unlock the phone on its own. A hard reset is used for getting an iPhone ‘unstuck’ when it’s frozen or not responding.

Gabriel Funk
Gabriel Funk

If you dont have use of touchscreen, you will NOT be able to power it off this way. IPhone 11 has a “slide to power off” function that you can not use if touchscreen does not work.

Liam Shotwell
Reply to  Gabriel Funk

Hard reset doesn’t require use of the touch screen. If you press the buttons in the right order and hold down, it will hard reset the device. If you are looking to simply reboot the device normally, you probably will need the touchscreen to work. If your touchscreen isn’t working at all and a hard reset doesn’t help, it might be worth looking into your repair options.

you do not need the touch screen ., What Liam said below. do the up and down volume buttons on side quickly and then just hold the right button for about 20 seconds until Apple Logo appears and release It will power back up and all should be fine. My granddaughter just did the IOS 15.5 update 24 hours ago and last night turned off and put on charger. this morning when she powered on, the touchscreen was not working and phone would not unlock. i tried this and all is well in phone land again.

A hard reset won’t be able to help you gain access to a locked iPhone, but can help eliminate software glitches that might have occurred. It’s also useful in case your iPhone gets frozen or stuck.

Just ignore all above, disconnect iphone from charger, let it fully discharge over night ensure it’s fully discharged and then reconnect to charger, it will automatically start , i did it last night now this morning its back to normal.
