When you perform a hard reset, your iPhone 8 or 8 Plus immediately restarts. A hard reset is the equivalent of restarting your computer by unplugging it, then plugging it back in.

Why Should I Perform A Hard Reset On My iPhone 8 Or 8 Plus?

Although you shouldn't rely on hard resets to turn your iPhone off and back on, it can be a reliable way to turn your iPhone off and back on when its unresponsive, frozen, or experiencing a software crash.

How Do I Perform A Hard Reset On My iPhone 8 Or 8 Plus?

  1. Quickly press the volume up button on the side of your iPhone.
  2. Quickly press the volume down button on the side of your iPhone.
  3. Press and hold the power button.
  4. Release the power button when the Apple logo appears on the display. Your iPhone 8 will turn back on shortly after.

Pro Tips

  • You may need to press and hold the power button for 15-30 before the hard reset is initiated.
  • The iPhone power button is also known as the Sleep / Wake button.

My iPhone 8 isn’t charging above 90% no matter how long it is left charging this started recently I have turned of optimised charging but it hasn’t mad a difference. I don’t think it’s the battery as I got a new one in the summer and the battery health is at 100% I don’t know what else to try now.

It worked, although it says it’s dead. I’ve tried charging it for a couple days and it wont charge even though it says it is. I cleaned out my charging port but its the same situation. My Iphone is broken on the back where the battery is but I’m not sure if that’s the problem

I blocked my phone by forgetting the pin – I was forced to change the pin and forgot what the new pin was by the time I actually needed it. Performing the procedure above reset the phone completely/back to factory settings.

I knew this would happen and went online to find the key combo, but you should make people aware since this isn’t what most people want to do.

My iPhone 8 Plus stops charging at 1%. I can’t even update its software. What could be the problem? I’m really stressed. I just bought it.

I have the Apple logo with a line under it that stopped 3 quarters of the way and it won’t go any further.

my phone is on the apple logo then turning to a black screen then after a while it turns black then within a couple seconds turns back on the screen with the apple logo. I tried doing the first part and it turns off but then turns back on. I tried multiple times but still the same result. What do i do?

If a hard reset isn’t preventing the Apple Logo from appearing, you may want to attempt a DFU restore.

that is exactly what mine is doing right now. Jullanne is saying the apple logo DOES appear but goes black and then turns back on to the apple logo but nothing goes further from there. So what is the solution to this?

I had to replace the battery to solve the problem.

Having the same issue as you describe. Can you please share what you found as a solution as I do not want to restore my iPhone and lose all my data. Just want it to restart. Thanks in advance.

I have an iPhone 8 running the iOS before the current. I get a tottaly different screen than you describe. After step 3 I get a Slide to power off, not the apple logo
And my iPhone won’t restart until I plug it into a power adapter
